Jimmy Buffett

I am a Parrothead. If you are a Parrothead, you will understand the mindset. I have been to concerts in six states and the differences in the way people respond is incredible.  At Riverbend in Cincinnati, Ohio it is impossible to keep the people contained. Jimmy sold out five shows at Riverbend in less than two hours. The previous record for anyone at Riverbend was four shows and that took quite a while longer to sell out. The audience in Indianapolis was a bit more restrained, but they still got into the show pretty well. The shows at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland and at the Nissan Pavilion in Manassas, Virgina were both fantastic.  The audience went wild.  Not so in Las Vegas, where Jimmy played one show at the Thomas & Mack Arena. It didn't even sell out. But that's Las Vegas - its weird there. People will pay $80 to see Siegfried & Roy perform dubious magic, or $30 - $90 for any of the other shows, but Jimmy Buffett doesn't seem to entice them. It is their loss - it was still a great show.

Here are some photos from the September 2, 2010 show at the Nissan Pavilion (Jiffy Lube Live) in Manassas, Virginia.  I took my youngest soon along and he is now officially a parakeet. He hated to admit it, but he actually began to enjoy Jimmy's music; the crowd getting into it was no small part of that experience.  Nadirah Shakoor and Peter Mayer were out front signing autographs before the show started, and Ilo Ferreira opened for the Coral Reefers with three songs.  Below these photos from Manassas are a couple photos from a show in Brooklyn, New York on December 9, 2016. Jimmy played with James Taylor; the duet of "Mexico" was incredible.  These are thumbnails, so click on them to see the full size picture.

2 September 2023 - Jimmy died last night.  I am in shock and mourning as are so many others.  I never got to meet Jimmy, but his music gave me so much happiness and he seemed so full of life, that I hoped and thought he would be making his music and playing to crowds until he was a hundred years old; "...I want eighty good years...", "... but not yet, not yet..."  I feel so sorry for his family and friends that they have lost such a light.  I have never cried for the death of someone I had not met until now.  I hope the Coral Reefers keep playing their music for many years; it won't be the same (sorry Mike, Mac, Tina, Nadirah, Peter, Jim, Robert, Doyle, Roger, John, Eric, ...) but we all need to hear you together more.

If you can get to Key West, Orlando, New Orleans, Charleston, Las Vegas, .... (the list goes on) do yourself a favor and visit Jimmy's Margaritaville Cafe.  It has everything the average Parrothead could possibly need.  Below are some pictures from visits to the Orlando and Panama City Beach Margaritaville's. These are thumbnails, so click on them to see the full size picture.
